tallest tire size for stock suspension?

Recommended Posts

Hey y'all.

I did a search for this before posting this thread with 0 results. I'm sure it's been asked before, but what is the tallest tire i can run with stock suspension that won't rub when turned full turn?

I don't plan on installing a leveling kit. When the original junk. Goodyears are done, I'd like a little taller tire to fill some of the gaps in the wheel wells. The stock size just looks too small to me.

Thanks

There's threads where people have fit 275/60R20 BFGoodrich KO2's on stock suspension without rubbing. Factory size is 275/55R20

Theres threads where people have rubbed with 275/60/20 on stock suspension as well :).

Almost depends on the brand and model of tire then. I have heard that KO2's true size is smaller than the Manufacturers listed size (ie: 275/60R20 isn't quite 33" tall)

Yup, exactly. I have heard that as well.

I think my z71 wheel diameter is 18"? So what I'm hearing is without a leveling kit stock size is what i must use?

Not at all. 265/65/18 is stock (31.6"). 275/65/18 (32.1") fits without any issues at all, as it's only half an inch bigger. If you want to push your luck, you can try 285/65/18 (32.6"). I would stay under 33" at stock height. Those who posted about saying they ran 275/60/20 (33.0") at stock height are running right at 33", and I have seen mixed reviews on that. Like mentioned before, it will depend on the actual tire size made by that manufacturor, as they are not all exactly to the specs I listed above.

I will say 275/65/18 looks good on the 18" OEM wheels though, I did that within 100 miles of buying my truck.

Excellent info. Thank you very much. Question....... If the stock tire size is 265\65 can't I run a 265/75 or 265/80? I'm not looking for a wider tire, just a taller one if ones available? I always thought the middle number was the height? Thanks Greg

No problem.

Yes, you can just go taller and keep the same width. LOL, I just always try to go wider if I can as I like the look.

I would think you could do 265/70/18 (32.6"), but I don't know first hand. 265/75 and 265/80 I don't think are common sizes, because you can only go so high with a sidewall where you need the width to support it.

Ok got it. Thanks again. I think I'll try to go to a 75 tire next time to fill some of the wheel well gaps. Also going to an lt tire at least or maybe load range d. I'll give up some ride comfort for a more rhobust tire thats more suited to handling my 6k lb travel trailer

Here is 275/65/18 on the stock 18" wheels and stock height.

just got back from TFT - they were kind enough to bring in a Nitto Terra Grappler - 295/70/17 and mount it on my factory wheel so I could see what it looked like. It fit with no issues at all - they did a full wheel turn and there was no rubbing in either direction...that is absolutely the largest you could go though...there was little or no room left. Since I'm getting a 2.25 level kit installed I've decided to go with the 305/70/17 - hope this helps.

Did they drive forward or reverse in full lock, or just turn the wheel sitting there? Reason I ask is that I have no rub at all going forward or sitting still at full lock. But I do rub just a tad in reverse at full lock.
