So maybe I've been out of the loop for a long time in the high perforamnce trucks, but what is chevy/GMC's answer to the Ford Lightning?

What ever happened to the old 454SS?  That was one tight truck............

I guess its still up to the old 454SS, not sure if that could even beat the lightening, not sure there is any truck out there that can beat the lightening IMO, not stock production anyway?

The only response Chevy has come up with is the Silverado SS.  But it is not aimed at beating a Lightning.  Just a 6.0L, Ext Cab and AWD, all the wrong turns to try and beat a supercharged, regular cab, RWD truck.  But they were the right turns for what I was looking for.  If only they had included a supercharger with it.  At least the after market is always there to save Chevys butt.

Chevy is supposed to be coming out with a regular cab rear drive SS that has a hopped up 6liter even better then the caddy's something like 380hp and 450tq just like the current lightning. But by the time chevy bings this out the lightning will have sequential supercharging and over 400hp. The only thing that will match the lightning these days is the new dodge SRT-10 but its a 50 000 dollar vehicle.

you're forgetting about chevy typhoon's which were supercharged trucks, stock.  Chevy will be joining all the major makers to produce supercharged stock models in the near future, I predict

Turbocharged.

I would personally love to have one of these.  My only issue is the outdated interior/instrumentation(personal opinion).

Those SS454 pickups were not that fast. They used to run a bunch of those here at a local track. They barely broke out of the 16's with stock setups. I was running 15.5's to 16's in my '89 4x4 with 175,000 miles on her.
