strange brake light issue

I drive a 2005 Sierra 5.3 2wd and my brake lights have been throwing me for a loop. They seem to work normally as far as driving is concerned. The issue is that they randomly come on after the truck has been parked for a while.

 

Lately, every time I get out of my truck I check to see if they are on, they are not. Then,hours later, a coworker will come and tell me that they are on. Some mornings my truck doesn't want to start due to low battery, leading to believe that they randomly came on through the night. When a coworker tells me that they are on, I usually just go pump the brake pedal and they will turn off.

 

This issue is becoming very difficult to diagnose due to the randomness. I thought I had it fixed a week ago (changed the brake light switch) but then I started acting up again yesterday. Can anyone shed some light on what might be the issue?
