Cruise control not working

Hello all, I am new to the forum as well as new to Chevrolet. I have had my 2008 1500 for about three months, and I have had issues. The cruise control light on the steering wheel lights up, but cruise control doesn't work. I wiggled the break light switch and it worked for a little bit, then it stopped so I got a new break light switch, then after about 4 weeks, the break lights stayed on and cruise didn't work anymore. So I replaced the switch again. So this is where I am now. Break lights work, cruise doesn't. I have a spring attached to the break pedal to keep it from turning the break lights on when the breaks are not engaged
