ABS Help!

today i had a very close call. I was pulling up to the bank going about 5mph and my brakes completely stopped working i hit the parking block that luckily stopped me and then the pedal went to the floor. I crawled underneath my truck and realized i also blew a brake line. I know my brakes failed because of the abs and the speed sensor. But dont have the money for new ones. So was just thinking about pulling the fuse for now. Any opinions?! I have a 2000 GMC sierra 1500 5.3 4x4

I have to add that when i was pulling in to the spot when i hit the pedal it was completely solid did not move at all.

Those two components failing will not cause your issue. I would suspect a failed booster.

Failed booster or failed brake line would have caused that. I would save up the money and replace the entire wheel bearing (both sides), the slop in the bearing can cause the ABS sensors to go crazy. New bearings come with the new sensors.

But will pulling the fuse just fix it temporarily fix it engageing? Thats all i want to know for now untill i can get new hubs.

you abs if it fails should not effect your brakes. Your speed sensors should have no effect at 5 MPH because there shouldn't be a differential in your tire rotation. If they fail or don't work it shouldn't take out your brakes either. A failed booster should just effect the amount of effort you have to apply to work the brakes, it is just a vacuum assist from the engine, ie "power brakes".

Your problem is you blew a brake line. A 2000 GMC in Michigan, salt. I would imagine once you fix the one you will blow another because all your lines are very rusted. I have an 01 and last summer replaced every line on my truck. I'm in Ontario, same salt crap on the roads. There is also a recall on the speed sensors for due to corrosion.

I find the solid pedal you added later strange. You said it went to the floor. Which?

There is a shuttle valve in the master cylinder. If you blow a line it will shift and then blocks off the blown line. So you only lose half your braking. GM trucks are a little strange compared to cars as the back brakes are a pair. On a car it is an x pattern. But when you pump the brakes they should come back after they went to the floor because the shift valve should have blocked off the bad side. Unless you have more than one blown line.

Your truck is totally unsafe as it is and should not be on the road. You will kill yourself or someone else. Pulling a fuse will do nothing. You have to fix the brake line. You have to then bleed the brakes. Have someone underneath with safety goggles on to watch the other lines because you may have 2 leaks. You can't diagnose any other problems until you have solid brakes. If all the leaks are fixed and you still don't have good brakes then look at the master cylinder first. It should re-centre the slide valve when you have good lines again.
