2005 Yukon XL Encoder Motor - Did I ruin it?

I hooked up a new encoder motor without hooking it up to the transfer case. The splines were not lined up, so I pushed the 4x4 button to rotate the encoder motor. It over-rotated the encoder motor. DId I ruin the encoder motor, or could I open it up and manually rotate the gears back into position? Thanks!
