Who has 20 inch wheels?

Recommended Posts

Did some browsing on this forum and it appears as though everyone is into the off-road and lifting the truck, putting on big tires, etc.

Does anyone have 20" wheels on their truck?  Have you had problems with bubbles in the sidewalls from impacts like potholes, etc.?  Any other problems?

I'm picking up a Yukon this week and I am debating about putting 20" wheels on it.  I want a little flash on the car, and I figure I can take them off when I want to go off-roading.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

I have 20's on my Z and have no problems at all, you should go with a 45 or 50 series tires if ya have lots of pot holes in your area. Ya it does add alot of flash!

Probably 90% of all current body GM fullsize SUV's run 20" around here, so I don't think they're a problem.  I'm guessing a dealer is outfitting all their SUV's with 20's because there are far too many people with them that I wouldn't expect, like elderly people and middle-aged soccer-mom type women.

I think the most popular size tire for SUV's is 285/50R20 which is plenty of sidewall to handle potholes.

quiksilver, I like your Z71 on 20's, what size tire are you running?  Is that stock height?

yea, there is a chevy dealer in town that has a average of 2-3 avalanches or 1500's w/ the same type of 20's on the lot for sale (new). so i would guess there wouldnt be much of a problem w/ them if a dealer is selling them outfitted w/ 20 inchers. too much bling bling for me though. :thumb:

I'm running 295/45/20, I lowered the rear 2" with belltech's shackles.  I want it to sit like the SS, so I think I need go 2" lower in the rear, and turn my torsion bars down alittle. I know its 4wd  :flag:

I have a driveway full of fullsize GM trucks with 20's on them. I even have a Ford in the back of the garage sportin 20's too. I have never had any troubles with tires/wheels.

The common misconception is that big inch wheels are prone to being soft, and can't handle daily driving. This myth came from people running 30 or 35 series tires on big inch wheels. If you run 30 or 35 series tires on a 15" wheel you will be just as much at risk of road hazard damage as a 20-22-24" wheel.

It's not the size of wheel that matters, it's the amount of rubber wrapped around it...
