Front diff compatibility question

Recommended Posts

Posted

i have a 1992 GMC K1500. The front diff will no longer engage 4x4. I picked up a low mileage diff out of a 1999 K1500. I see that the axle shaft flange is a different shape but otherwise looks the same. The gear ratio is correct(3.73:1). Should this differential fit my 92?

Thanks for any help!

should be the same if not mistaken as long as it's still out of the same body style truck (GMT400 platform). The differential shift actuator is also known to fail or not engage in extremely cold weather. Dorman makes a replacement.

Thanks for the info. Is there a way to troubleshoot the actuator? I have the updated Non-thermal actuator.
