Any tips on soundproofing my GMC 2500?

I've always been disappointed since the day I bought this GMC 2500 Sierra. It's noisy as hell on the interstate. You'd think for a $50,000 truck that it would be quieter, but there we go. Has anyone tried undercoating? New sound barrier carpet pad? Other ideas?

Hmm, I was just bragging about my GMC being quieter than everything else. Different strokes for different folks.....

Undercoating would do minimal help, unless you went crazy thick. Sound deadening would work, car audio guys use it for the same concept.

Where exactly do you hear the most noise? Doors? Floor? Windhsield? Door Seals?

seems to resonate more from the floors and back panel. It also could be be the tires, might need to switch brands

That could do it. I had similar instances in both my truck and car. I had a cheap set of "Kelly" tires, and they were awful. Constantly out of balance, and made tons of noise. The BFG's are the best tires I've ever owned....and Bridgestone's.

That was one huge factor for me in trading in my 2011. It was a very noisy vehicle inside, My new 2015 is a world of difference, barely hear anything.

Take my thoughts with a grain of salt. I have a 2016 1-ton diesel with Mickey Thompson aftermarket tires so the noise in the cabin should be horrible given my experiences with the 2004 and 2006 that I had previously with similar set up. They have improved dramatically! It's still "louder" than others would expect but that's because of the diesel and big lug aftermarket tires.

You say you hear it more in the floor and rear panel so it may be the tires. Any vibrations? Does it increase with speed, especially going from around town to highway? If you like the tires and they are in balance you need to go another route.

You can try sound deadening, but there are many options. Doing the entire interior is ridiculous in my opinion. Targeting the noise or vibration is best. However, you have to pull the rugs/interior to install so it's cheaper to do everything you want in one shot, so don't do it on a whim. Even if you do it yourself, which is the cheaper option, it's a pain in the arse (imagine pulling door panels/rear seats/etc. multiple times).

Jegs sells 70mil thick sound deadener, and that's what I'm putting in my truck. So far I only have it in the extended cab doors, but once spring gets here I'm going to add it to the floor of the cab all the way up to the rear window.

When I first drove my new 2012 HD I thought the rear passenger window was open. There was thread on this problem somewhere and now I can't seem to find it but there is a service bulletin on it. I never did take it in and now my truck is out of warranty....between rock concerts, guns and motorcycles I don't hear much any more anyway.

This is the service bulletin: GMC TSB-10-08-58-001E bulletin.pdf

(file to big to load.....hint: has to do with the vent behind the rear seat)
