Constant power wire at the bed

I don't believe there is a 12 v constant on the trailer plug and yes it would only run with the lights turned on

Travel trailers use a constant 12V "battery lead" from the plug to keep the on board battery alive. This is available at all times, not just with the lights on. Here is the general wiring diagram. See the red/black fused battery lead on the truck end.

eTrailer.com says to use a meter to make sure of the pins as different manufacturers use different colors, but here is a better look at the 7 Way plug. The 12V is black in the center diagram for travel trailers.
