Lock/unlock horn chirp

My truck is a 99 but has a 2000 BCM with the Content Theft Deterrent (factory alarm).

Is it possible to program the keyless entry so that unlocking and locking it triggers a horn chirp?

I know if I press the horn button twice, it will chirp, but I would like it to chirp every time I press a button at all.

I know I can buy one of those aftermarket add-on alarms, but I'd rather save my $50 if I can just program this feature in.

I can't answer your question but, why does my truck chirp when you press the lock buttom twice???

If you know what color the wires are going to your acuators for your locks you could probally hook up a relay or something to it and hook it to your horn.

I don't know why, but that 2nd press chirp is documented in the manual with no reason given.  If I hadn't read the manual, I would have assumed that the chirp means the factory alarm is armed, but it actually arms after one press of the button.

The problem with wiring the actuators to the horn is the pulse duration would be a little long, so it would come out a full BEEP instead of a quick chirp.  Might really scare some bystanders.

Kind of on the same track of this thread, how do you know, when you disarm your alarm, if it was tripped while you were away? My old aftermarket alarms would chirp 4 times instead of 2 if it was set off. The lights don't seem to do anything different either. Anyone lknow?

Let me get this straight: You want the horn to chirp every time you lock, or unlock either one (or both ) doors? Jees I

hit the "L" button on the way out. It's an easy PZM program

as long all of the anti-theft stuff is intact.

Have a great one!

I'd still like to know if anyone knows what tells you if the alarm was tripped when you return to the vehicle and deactivate it. Anyone know?

Yes, I want horn chirps on both lock and unlock, but only if done via remote.  Even better if it would chirp once for lock, and twice for unlock, so I can tell one from the other.

I don't know what PZM means, but I don't like to lock from the interior switch when I'm exiting.  That promotes accidentally locking the keys in the car.  I have NEVER accidentally locked keys in the car in my entire life, and I attribute it to my always having had keyless entry.  I ALWAYS lock/unlock from outside.  If I go to lock the car and can't find the key fob, then I know I must have left the keys in the car!  Very simple, and is a habit.

I put aftermarket alarms in all my other cars, so my truck is the only one that's silent on lock/unlock and I don't like it.  Plus, the lock actuators are so quiet I always have to yank the handle to make sure I've really locked it.

I saw this in the new Crutchfield catalog that came in the mail a couple days ago.  It is an alarm that plugs into the stock wiring harness of the truck.  Seems like a simple install and it uses the stock keyless entry remotes.  Thinking of getting one myself, can't go wrong for 100 bucks.  Here is the link Crutchfiled alarm

does it really hurt your finger or thumb to press it a few more times???????

 Why yes, yes it does.

I don't want to press it a few more times.

I'm used to chirps, and I want chirps.

What's with people and their attitudes.  :loser:

Mark, take a look at this GM VSC3400.  It looks easier to hook up than the one from Crutchfield.  Plus, I think it's made by DEI.

VSC3400 that I won on Ebay

I think Shawn is more interested in getting a chirp with every push of the button, as a confirmation, and not just looking to save time on the button pushes.  :loser:

I'd be interested in that myself.  Mine chirps once after I hit the lock button twice.  I doesn't chirp at all when I unlock it, just the park lights come on.  I'd like for it to chirp when unlocked, so I can tell on those really bright days when the park lights are a little harder to see.
