Aftermarket Suspension

I have searched the forums briefly and have not found much on this topic.

I currently have a 2.5 level, but plan to go to a 4.5" or 6" lift in the near future.

What are some aftermarket suspension setups I could look into that would work with a 4.5" lift?

Wont really be doing much towing. Just looking to gain a better ride. I have would like to go with King, Fox, or Bilstein, or possibly Icon (but haven't seen much on them).

I went with bajakits prerunner kit

Other than the controls arms and such, what would be the difference from your kit and just ordering king suspension setup with my 2.5 in level? Such as this kit

The baja kit is $3700 for front suspension only and rear suspension setup hasn't been released yet. By ordering just the king suspension for $2500 I could basically get the same results for probably half the cost.

Youll get better performnce than stock with those kings, what you wont gain is wheel travel or width.

If you use stock aarms youre limiting your wheel travel

The baja kit will push you out an additional 2.5 inches each side I believe and another couple inches of travel 11.5 for 4wd 13 for 2wd. I just ordered the Icon stage 1 kit and some cognito UCA's, debating a slight diff drop and rear leaf springs.

If you're going 4 to 6 inches could probably go with bds or zone. You can get bds with fox setups included or you can get the kit and order sized coil overs to fit. One of the guys on here I've seen added Icons to his 4.5 zone.

Thanks! My only concern with the baja kit is "how far down the rabbit hole do I want to go?" It seems like that kit needs more modifications such as wider fenders.

What are the possible wheel setups you can run with that baja kit? It may we worth it if I can get a 20x12 (with a nice wide lip wheel) to fit under there.

Is there any benefit of just adding the rear shocks and doing nothing else? Or will it require additional changes such as leaf springs, etc?

You don't need to get new leaf springs or blocks with new shocks in the back, the one's I ordered will work with 0 to 3 inches or rear lift. I'm just debating it as I'm likely doing 3 inches up front on the coilovers and don't want to do the California lean. If you go with bds or zone it'll come with blocks, leaf springs are an option.

Baja's kit is for performance. I feel like putting 20's on it is counterintuitive. These kits are meant for a smaller wheel, more sidewall. 17's with 34's or 35's, fender modifications to maximize the benefits. For the record VelocyRaptor's setup is sick.

That's what I was thinking myself. I'm going more for looks and a smoother ride. I also agree VelocyRaptor's setup is awesome.

Now I just need to decide between the BDS 4in lift with fox shocks or king shocks with new UCA with my 2.5 in level.

UCA's and coilovers would replace your level and extend your travel- it's cheaper for the kit and easier to install, no cutting or welding and you could run 33's.

The 4 inch seems like a pretty in depth install, but maintains angles- could run 35's on 20's with the right offset and is probably more the 'look' you are looking for.

tough call

Thanks guys, i was told by bajakits i had to run glass if i wanted 35s and if i wanted to keep stock frnders i could run 33s

I did go pretty far in the rabbit hole on this one

Cutting the uca stops, replaced bumper to clear 35s

Bought 4.75" backspacing methods

Had to ditch the swaybar

Had to replace front axles with longer ones

Clear the steel spindles lca mount for the heim which was only a little lip needed for the misalignments

I think clearing everything for the glass was the worst having to drill out the spotwelds and grinding away the stock fender wells hah it took my brother my dad and me about 5 days to do the install in a garage but in the end its well worth it
