Front left "howl"

Recommended Posts

Just an update, still no fix to this day. Sounds and feels like a bad hub/bearing assembly on the left front side. The "howl" is almost unbearable on bad pavement or dirt roads. The dealer has no clue or no intention of a remedy. Please tell me someone has took it to a dealer whom has actually fixed this problem so I can take it to them and just tell them what to do. It is even more frustrating when you take a test drive and hear it, and they think it's normal. My noise just appeared out of the blue one day, so I know that something has changed.

You aren't alone.

The worse the road, the louder the howl.

Yesterday, I went under the hood to check things out.

Since I bought a snow plow, I decided to chase down their firewall entry points.

There is a round rubber boot that looks like a cup, that a thick wiring harness runs through the middle of it.. It's a round, 360 degree two sided lip seal that covers both inside and outside of the fire wall. The sides of it look corrigated. You can see on the fire wall maybe a foot from the top. It's not easy to reseat, but the outside lip has to be visibally covering the firewall opening.

Anyway, my cup was not properly seated after the guys mounting the plow used that entry point to run the plow control wires.

So I did my best to refit the boot, and what I couldn't get back in place, I covered the area with gorilla tape.

Maybe I'm crazy, but the howl is gone.

I checked the boot you are describing and it seems to be intact. I will take a closer look this weekend when I have daylight. Thanks for the tip though.
