Dodge Hemi

I bought my stepside a couple of months before the 0% craze struck and now with the Hemi in the 1/2 ton I'm really thinking about going awol on the general and joining the Dodge Brothers. I'd really like to hear from anyone with experience with the Hemi 1/2 ton.

BTW I have always been a Chevy guy And can get into a new hemi 1/2 ton and the monthly payment wont change plus the stepside has been out of warranty for about 6 months now. ???  ???

Some of the early HEMIs had break-in issues, I don't know if it is a problem on 1/2 tons or not.

Since your warranty is up, you may want to go for the Dodge.  Not to mention the fact that the payments will be the same, the Dodge has a 7 year warranty and you will get to enjoy that new truck smell again...

The 1/2 ton Hemi would be cool! I havent drove one but dont see how it could be much better than a 5.3, the dodge probably has some kind of torque management or something similar that limits its performance too.

I drove a 1/2 ton hemi about a week ago and was not that impressed with the "345 horses". With the 20,s on 'em they have the 3.92 rear end, it will get up and go but i was not "in awe" of the power. But then again, as about a $1000 upgrade it would be worth it over the 4.7

I dunno about the Hemi but I have a friend that used to have a ram 1500, and the thing gave him nothing but problems.....He actually had a rear wheel fall off at speed on the highway...axle and all....crazy stuff

BDBWTE no like new Hemi... but it might be cool in a 1/2 ton I sure hope so because in a 3/4 ton truck I doubt it is able to pull a 350..

They are no good at pulling. The HEMI is a car engine. Look at how high it reaches peak power. I can't remember the exact rpms, but it gets 345 hp at like 6,000!

Performance wise the best I've seen out of a stock half ton short bed Hemi was a 15.40 at 89 mph. I've read on the Dodge websites that the torque converter is the main problem and should be changed for big gains. Neither of the 2 I watched run could break the tires loose on the starting line. A friend of mines nephew has one and it won't break the tires loose either. Sounds like they are lacking in bottom end torque to me but I'm sure they could be made to scream.

Rodger that they have no low-end torque 2000 and under about 3000 they start opening up a little and at 4 and 5 it really screams.. I would have to pull a heavy trailer and shift at 5000rpms to get to the next gear...

ACK. MWAAAAAEEEEUUUUUUUU. UCKIE.

I'll wave as I blow by with my "identical" 345 horses.

Let's not even begin to discuss ergonomics of the Dodge cab, I want to :chevy: just thinking about it.

yeah well I didn't have the extra 15 grand to get the chevy SS, besides I wanted a reg. cab, short wheelbase. which may never come out. sooo.. chevy can stick it as far as I'm concerned, since they don't like to come off their prices. The closest chevy dealership near me has had the SAME EXACT TWO (they only got two) SS silverado's on their lot since they came in (like beginning of the year.. march, at the latest). how pathetic is that? they can't sell em. if they'd come off the price a little, they might.

Nothing personal dude but you are on a GM site. We are never going to agree with you and your choice to buy a dodge so don't try. Some people here will have enought tack to honor your choice and not give you s**t. As long as your on this site don't figure on open armed dodge hugging attitude. I do know that the V10 is a bad motor don't know how long they last but they are pulling mothers. I just don't like the Hemi and to be honest really don't like the 6.0 because they are all going to high rpm car like engines that you have to turn to 4k before you get power. The 350 was a beast.

Are you talking about Coggin Chevy? They got 3, 1 of each color in the earliest mid May because I know for sure that they didn't have them while I was in school. They have sold the black one too. :smash:
