Appropriate oil life

When the gauge can range from under 4000 miles to above 8000 miles I have concluded it's bogus.

 

I use oil analysis to determine how long oil in the engine can safely run.

I do that for my commercial stuff, but I am not into seeing how long I can go with oil in my pickup. I just change at between 5000-6000 miles and call it a day. When it comes to the 10 gallons of oil for my commercial engine vs 6 qts for the pickup, it really isn't cost effective to do UOA's on the pickup, so I just change the oil. Gonna crawl under there and grease everything anyway, might as well change the oil while I am there.
