What should I buy?

Hello...I'm 17 and I would like to get a truck. I don't have a real big budget, up to about $13000 or so for the truck. I'll be using the truck to tow stuff with (up to about 3000lbs maybe sometimes more but max 5k) and normal driving. I'm not sure what I should buy. S10, Silverado, etc. I'm looking for some advice on what I should buy please.

Dude I bought my 99 Silverado when I was 18. Get the Silverado!! The S-10's are really small and only come with a V6.

Full size if your going to tow/haul. The s-10 is really small, not much room to do anything with.

A full size truck with a small V8 or the V6 would be a great place to start...

Don't get the S10 ... not enough room. Plus, in my opinion, it's not designed to really tow/haul stuff. Much better with a Silverado. Got my Sierra in December, haven't regretted it for a second. Just hope you got the money for gas, regardless of which truck you get, because neither has great gas mileage.

As I'm sure others here will tell you from experience. When it comes to a major purchase, buy more than you anticipate yourself needing. That is if you're able. You'll find 1001 ways to use the truck that you hadn't considered previously. I'd definitely go full-size, especially if you plan on hanging onto it for a while. I had a used 92 Jimmy(S15 size) that I traded in on my 99 Rado(new). The passenger compartment was night and day. It'll be full-size for me again next time.

Dude I'M all for the silverado but i'm a speed freak at heart so let me tell you that you can buy a s-10 cheap and put an LS1 ORLS6 from the corvette in it and it's really simple and damm is it fun

Easy, huh? Are you gauging this from how easy the Integra motor went into your Civic with the Si badges?

To the original poster: You're going to want a half ton. For $13k, you probably won't find much newer than '97-'98. New bodystyle trucks are still getting good money unless they have a ton of miles. Good luck.

I used a 1994 S-10 to pull a 4k lb ski boat for 2 seasons. It wasn't terrible, but mileage dropped from 19-21 down to 7-9 when towing...WITH AN S-10!!!

I would go with the Silverado as well.
