if the old ring gear and pinion are worn out (noisy, goes "clunk-clunk" when you give it the gas and let off)... then you can have the rear end rebuilt, or since it's a 2WD (looks like) you can just get another rear end with axles and all at a junk yard.

In either case... guessing... 500 dollars. :o

It is a 2wd, and it doesn't make any clunk noises so I don't think it's worn. The only reason i want to redo my rear end is because i don't want split differential, I had a friend tell me to get a posi but those cost around 400 dollars

If the current rear end is in good working order, I'd leave it alone, other than to drain and replaced the rear end grease if it hasn't been done recently.

If you're worried about getting around in the winter, a set of tire chains on a standard rear end will do fine. That, and about 500 pounds of something in the bed. :)

posi-lock rear ends are not always as good as you would think they'd be in bad weather. Both of my trucks have them, and both of them will go sideways on you in a second--if you're not careful. When both wheels lock in and pull, the rear end of the truck is going to want to come around on you... I'd keep what you have, it'll probably serve you just fine.

these have a locking diff version, not popular locally..

I know they are out there sitting around.

the rpo code was G80.

Don't forget some new ubolts. you'll find they cheated a 9/16ths claim to just the threads. The factory ubolts themselves are very wimpy.

balkamp at napa has some very nice ones... increase to 90ft lbs.
