New Under rear seat tool box

The GMC website has a "new" tool box storage bin as an optional accessory.  The site didn't have any details or pics, so I stopped by a local dealership to check one out.

It is made of that heavy duty plastic you see used in other plastic truck boxes.  The unit mounts under the rear seat of extended cab Sierras.  It has a solid locking mechanism and opens from the top (so you have to fold the seat up to get it open).  Looks like a decent storage bin for all your misc gear, but is fairly expensive (IMO) at around $370.

Does anyone have one of these things?  Interestly enough, the only reason the dealership had one was because it was damaged in shipping (and couldn't be installed).  One of the three hinges (plastic obviously) broke.  Not exactly a good thing...

Cool, good to see some folks with the unit.

I don't have PN, sorry.  And your guess is as good as mine for another vendor.  I've seen a similar box made out of steel with a drawer slide out mechanism instead of a lid, but it was around $500.

I've got the 1 in Jon's photo and got it for around $65 or so due to a GM/Manufacturer error when they first came out.  Mine has 1 broken hinge, but for the limited times that I open it up it works well for me.  Plenty of use and a nice unit, I wouldn't have paid $350 or such for it.  I'd look into maybe making something up yourself...maybe wood with some carpeting attached?

I don't have that one but one that uses the seat as the cover. It locks closed too. Not that that would stop anyone from getting it open. Has worked out real well. I plow and got sick of everything sliding around in the back. Now everything stays in place and it seems to have quieted down the rattles from the tow chains and such. Payed $150 delivered from GMPartsDirect.

The box is on page 15 of the Silverado Accessories brochure (listed as item "OO").  It is GM part number 12498114.  You can see a picture of it here (go to page "9"):

It is NOT the one in 4x4's picture -- that is the heavy duty one that comes standard on the Sierra Professional (that's the box that caused all the commotion last year! ).

The # that sk gave is the one I have. It is not the professional grade box, but for a couple hundred dollars less I love it. It doesnt have a bottom in it, it uses the floor of the truck and the seat is the cover. All in all I think it's well worth the $.

Does GM (or anyone) make a similar product for a crew cab? I tried gmpartsdirect (and the .pfd linked above) and didn't find anything. Anyone have or know of one?

I haven't seen anything for a crew cab, but I haven't been looking to hard either. I'm hopefully going to pick a "Seat Vault" from these guys in the next month or two...

TruckVault

I don't think they have a seat vault for crew cabs, but it wouldn't hurt to ping them and see if they have something in the works...
