anyone heard of lawnmower racing?

i was watching discovery channel and they had a deal about

lawnmower racing. Really looks like fun!! they go up to 60mpf i think looks really fun..anyone know how to tweek the mowers to run like this?  If anyone knows anything about this I WANNA KNOW PLEEEEEEZZZZ.  I have an old mower..i think it runs just need some tinkering.  I really wann do this...cant wait to find out what i need to do. :thumb:

I watched the same show. It looked very cool. Only piece of advice I can give ya is this....take the blade off before going racing.

They have been racing lawn tractors about 10 miles from here for years now...  I have never gone down to watch them, but they say that the "modified" tractors really fly.

I had a buddy (who is no longer with us) who used to drag race them a couple years ago. The towns would set up strips on the city streets and let them go.

 

I gaurantee your jaw would drop the first time you saw an old Murry yank the wheels a foot high in the first couple gears as it blasts down the track.

 

His mower was lowered, motor was tricked out (thousands$$$), and ran on nitro methane like the big boys (No kidding!), custom exhaust, Moroso 10K tach, real wheelie bars off his drag car. Just for fun he had a functional parachute out back. His top speed on it was 72 MPH I believe! #### fast for a Murry!

 

If you get a chance to see them run, check them out. TV doesn't do them justice. Those guys are nuts!

I caught part of that show myself. Man those guys look like they were having a blast. I'll bet there are big bucks in getting a lawnmower to run 60mph.

5 years ago, TNN used to  do this show called "Motor Madness", it was a 3 hour show that featured different types of of Motorsports every week.

 

I believe they featured lawnmower racing once or twice.  It was pretty cool.

 

 

My plate's kinda full though to be going lawnmower racing.

 

I gotta strip & prep a Demolition Derby car before October, and buy a POS 4x4 to go tough truck racing at VA beach a year from now. (more on that later)

I did that once...At three in the morning ON Virginia Beach....The locals didn't appreciate it much.
