Zaino question

I am intrigued by the Zaino line of products and many of you swear by them. After reading up on them I concerned about the application procedure. The Zaino website says that you apply the product (the Z2 and Z5 in particular) and let them dry or haze over. Here's my concern: I don't have a garage to shelter the vehicle while the prodcut is drying, so wouldn't I risk some scratches by leaving it outside to dry and then wiping it down several hours later?

 

Also, how well do you think it would do on a Pewter truck (lighter color)?

It looks great on pewter, I have 5 coats on mine. Surley you have a family member or friend who will let you borrow a garage. If you buy the new hardener they have it will dry in less than 30 minutes,and you can apply up to 3 coats a day, and by the time you finish applying it to the truck,  were you first applied it should be ready to wipe off anyway. Does polish work like wax? Why should I use the polish over wax? Will the polish hold up when you wwash the truck?

Yes it holds up well. It is recommended to wash your truck in DAWN liquid first because it strips everything off. Then go with the Zaino. You normally do not need the Z2 AND Z5. Z5 is for swirls.

 

Order the ZFX ( it basically replaces the Z1). This way it can go on in one coat. It is SO easy that it can seem hard, almost like you are forgetting something.

 

I have about 15 coats on my vette which is red, and I have 5 coats on my Tahoe which is Pewter.

 

 

Anywhere out of the direct sun will do. But you should not scratch your paint either way.

Zaino is crack for your car (or truck).  I use the following on my white Avalanche:

 

- Wash with Dawn to strip oils & wax.

- Claybar (Zaino Z18 or other brand).  This smooths everything.

- Wash with Z7.

- Apply Z2 (with ZFX).  Buff with white 100% cotton towel.

- Apply Z6 and buff with white 100% cotton towel.

- Z2

- Z6

- Z2

- Z6

 

Continue to repeat until arm falls off after last coat of Z6.

 

On my black vette, I start with Z5 and then move to Z2 after about 3-4 coats.

When you guys say "coats" it leads me to believe there is a buildup of the Zaino on the vehicle. Similar to that liquid glass stuff that was very popular in the '70s and '80s. Seems like I heard that the liquid glass stuff would eventually spiderweb and crack. Will the Zaino do the same? Regular wax just sort of wears away. Does Zaino just wear away? I guess I can't get my line of thinking off of the old waxing ways.

I'm new to this board - but have used Zaino for 3 years on the old truck.  Haven't started the new one yet.  It looks like there are some others here that use Zaino and will no doubt give good advice - but if you want to talk to quite a few Zaino folks - take a look at the LS1.com forum - Showcar and Detailing..  That is where I learned most about it when I started.   There are some dealers as well as Sal himself there once in a while - posting and answering questions.  You'll find tons of discussion and help with the product

if you put enough on it wont wear away.  First fall i used it i didnt add enough and by the end of winter the paint wasnt as smooth you could tell some wore away.

How long does Zaino last after application? A typical coat of wax lasts a month or so at best.

I don't have the time to put more than a coat of wax on my truck every couple of months, let alone 5-6 coats!  Wow, your guy's dedication to the paint on your trucks amazes me!  

 

Of course where I live it rains 200 days out of the year, so I only get the chance to really clean it every month or so.

I'm with akjay! I don't wax my truck ever, but I do wash it pretty regular after winter/mud season is over. I have found that trade-in value is the same if the truck is immaculate or dinged, at least in VT. My last truck was black and had to wash it all the time. New one is pewter and looks good longer! Now I can wax it less!! Let's see, I can hunt/fish/work/cut grass/holler at kids or hunt/fish! See ya on the lake!

Bob G., I agree with the fact that Pewter trucks "look" cleaner for a longer time (thanks goodness sometimes). Just this morning I thought about that as I looked closely at how dirty my truck was, but standing off it's hard to tell. Though, like many on this forum, I am a bit anal about the cleanliness of my truck. I vacumn and wash about twice a week if I can. We have had a great deal of rain here in Maryland over the last three weeks (and maybe for the next few days) and not washing is driving me nuts.

 

I still don't know about the Zaino. Kinda expensive, though it gives the look I want. Getting ready to buy my wife a new vehicle. Black. It would do wonders for that car. I just don't have any way to shelter the vehicle while the product dries. I still need to get an opinion from Zaino themselves.

Yeah I thought I was smart buy going with my Blue color. I guess I was wrong. It turns out that blue is just a crappy as Black.............
