homelink issues

Hi all,

I've looked the forums a bit and can't find an answer. I just traded in my 2011 Sierra for a 2015 Silverado LTZ (what a difference!). On my 2011, I was able to program the homelink system without having the garage door opener; just using the learning button on the garage door opening unit. I've tried the same sequence with the 2015 and I can't seem to figure it out. Long story short, I don't have an actual garage door opener (didn't have one when I bought the house) and I don't want to go buy a universal one just to program the truck and never need it again. So, has anyone programmed the homelink system without using the garage door remote and only using the actual garage motor?

I had the same problem, but had to buy a remote to program it. By the way, the new transmitter is having a lot of issues with working correctly, intermittently and dismal range. My transmitter was replaced last week under a bulletin on the issue, so if you have any problems the dealership can test it.

I was having issues with dismal range too, and after some searching found out the led bulbs in garage door openers can cause issues. I know that may sound silly but after switching back to to incandescent bulbs the range went back to expected.

A little off topic but I just bought a 2011 Sierra SLE Extended cab and would like to add the Homelink panel to it. Is the necessary wiring in place already? I've found the panel available through GM Parts. My question: is the necessary wiring already in place.....just remove the existing panel and install the Homelink panel?

Can you find a friend with a remote, Use it to program your homelink and then get it back to them. They would just have to have it relearn their system. Shouldn't be all that hard. Maybe find on on eBay for cheap?
