drparker7 Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 thanks for the info. they are in the making a intake for the 2015 Silverado I think I will wait and get it when it comes out.
mike221 Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I didn't really like the vararam that I had in my '02 2500HD. Sent from my Vortec-powered Droid Turbo using Tapatalk
ROLNSLO Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I worked with Vararam while they were developing the intake for the V6 5th Gen Camaro about 5 years ago - their shop is about 30 minutes from me. They can take a while to get through the prototyping process on a new intake system but they do a significant amount of testing and refining of their designs based on logged ECU data. Unlike most aftermarket systems, Vararam doesn't start with a cone filter on a pipe and call it a day, they actually analyze airflow patterns through their intake designs and look at the fine details across the RPM range to see the effects on several different engine parameters (timing, fuel trims, O2 sensor levels, etc..). They aim for as much power as they can safely get without pushing the engine to the edge of reliability. They have to design for several usage patterns so what may work OK at sea level in colder weather may not work as well in the mountains or in Death Valley. They really try to find the balance that works best for the majority of their users. Before you think I'm just a fanboy of Vararam, keep in mind that I currently run a Cold Air Inductions intake on my 2011 Camaro SS. I loved the V6 kit that Vararam released on the 2010-2011 Camaro and ran their SS model on my 2011 Camaro for 50k miles. Unfortunately, I drive too much and found the SS model to be a bit of pain to pull the filter out and clean every 6k miles so I switched to the CAI kit instead. I was just lucky enough to have a lot of insight into the process that Vararam goes through to bring an intake to the market and can say they won't release something until they are very certain they haven't left anything on the table in the design. If they are really working on a new intake for the 2015+ models, I'll have to seriously consider it even though I promised my wife I wouldn't touch the drivetrain on her new truck.
drparker7 Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 Thanks for all that information. I also live about 30 minutes from them. I am going to call tomorrow and double check with them about making the intake
