Question about V4/V8 mode and Torque OBD2 reader app

My truck is a base sierra without the color DIC therefore it does not display the V4/V8 mode icons like the color displays do. I have always wanted to see what mode my truck was in while driving and I know it sends something readable through the OBD2 port since tbe range disablers can disable V4 mode through the OBD2 port. So, I was wondering if Anyone here would have any idea on how to create a custom display/pid for the torque app so it could display V8/V4 mode?

If you have the money I would just swap out the dash for an SLT or SLE dash or even a Denali dash if you want more digital display. I can't remember, but I do believe it should be a straight up plug and play swap. I know it's a lot just to show V4 mode, but it has a lot better features and looks better.

The problem is the dash is vin locked and I dont beleive there is any way to change them out.

I've read where I believe some people with the Sierra has upgraded the dash to the Denali dash where it's more digital like the 4 small gauges. Also people with the base dashes I think people have upgraded to an upper trim dash. I know if you do upgrade from the base dash you'll need the steering wheel controls for the DIC in the gauge cluster and I'm not sure if the base models came with those. I mean if you think about it, it has to be a way to change if the dash goes bad and need a new one so I would think you'd be able to upgrade to a factory dash. Just a thought. I know having a Chevy LT it's no way I would like the base model dash because I like the gauges and DIC screen.

You will be spending money for nothing. I was also one that really wanted to know when I v4 too but that only lasted a few days and could not care less anymore. You can feel it going in and out if you pay attention.

I just suggested the dash because it's a nice upgrade in general from the base dash. If you look at the base trim dash vs a mid or upper trim dash you'll see that it would be worth upgrading to a better dash over the base dash. But I honestly wouldn't have known when mine went into V4 mode without seeing it on the dash. Well up until I had the exhaust done lol, I sure know now without looking at the dash. Like you say, it's not a big deal, but if he wants to know then he wants to know. I felt sort of the same for the fact that I did wish it would tell you when it power goes to the front axle while in auto 4x4. But really, it's rarely in auto 4x4 (just when it's snow and/or ice or slush in the winter). I guess I thought I would care to know but after the first winter I really didn't care as long as I know it worked like it's supposed to.
