Not even driven for 2 years yet paint flaking off

Noticed this the other day and it's spreading on my 2014 Silverado (not even 20k km's on it). At first I thought it was a bit of tar on the plastic bumper trim, then more flaked off today, alas it is the paint flaking off. Absolutely no damage has ever been done to this piece. Anybody else having this happen?

I am on my 2nd AT trim truck w/ painted bumpers (first got totaled) & learned my lesson got the bumper wrapped before I even had tags on it. My first truck the bumper chipped so badly I showed a pic of the car I traded in (08 G8 GT w/ 130,000 miles) that was lower to ground & had 5 years of abuse/winters/miles on it & had less pock marks w/o any protective film. As a result GM actually repainted the bumper on my first truck admitting the amount it chipped in such a short time under the full warranty was ubusrd - I had it wrapped right after as well.

Although its a different piece I imagine you may have luck getting it repainted, could just be a factory flaw as I haven't seen any other trucks w/ paint flaking there (including my own) - other option would be trying to color match w/ plasti-dip or similar material that would adhere well to the plastic & be more durable.

I took it to the dealership last night after I spotted it. The auto body guy took one look for about a second from a distance and said he was going to order the replacement part and they will put it on when it is in. That tells me that he has seen this issue a few times at least. Just extremely annoying to have to take it in for something that I have the feeling will likely just happen again despite zero damage being done to the piece (the hardest thing that ever would have connected with that part is a bug).

Mine is flaking as well (same color as yours) but not as bad. Mine are from rocks hitting it. I only have 10k miles on mine and rarely on the interstate so I figured it would just get worse. I just plan on repainting it myself when it gets worse.

These little trips to the dealership for stuff that could easily be fixed with a bit of QC are getting annoying and wearing my patience thin. This will be my 20th or so trip to fix these annoyances ( it took 7 trips alone to fix (hopefully) the intermittent no start issue).

I expect to go in a few times within the first few months to iron out wrinkles, not almost once a month for the next 2 years.

No offence but I can see them denying that claim. That is clearly debris damage and is made worse by your oversized tires.

They approved it all 4 fenders are getting repainted on the 9th, as soon as its done im going to get 3m tape applied to them all and maybe look at fender flares even though thats a last resort.

Going to have to negotiate an extra $1500 off the price of a new vehicle to use toward having the paint covered in clear film just so it doesn't chip or flake off. What a joke.

Look at your rusted ass bolts. That is why learn to wash your vehicle and the paint won't get as weak and start doing that. That's what happens when salt hits things.

Lol Sorry I dont have time to wash it more than twice a week or cant afford to take it in every day to get it washed. Try living in Winnipeg where the answer to everything is more stop lights and more salt on the roads. I cant even make the 10km drive home from the carwash without it getting dirty especially in winter.

Not sure what youre implying by your comment but I was my truck atleast once a week at the minimum since i bought it.

My 240k mile trucks fender wells don't even look that bad. It's the garbage paint they use now. It falls off if you look at it funny.

His damage isn't from paint failure, it's just getting pounded by rocks and debris due to his tires extending past the wheel well. If his tires were factory the bulk of that debris would be flying up into the wheel well instead of blasting his fender lip (which has multiple dents in the metal).

Have buddies working at the Cruz plant an they have 7000 cars they cant deliver because all the paint is falling off. Was told they switched from PPG to Sherwin Williams to save a buck and they cars a like the early 90's now.
