Shaking is driving me crazy!

I have a 2005 2500HD 4x4 with a 6.0 and I have a question for my fellow 6.0 owners. Does your truck have a little shimmy/shake at idle? Regardless of what gear I'm in my truck has a random shake that I can feel up into the cab but it's very inconsistent and as soon as you touch the gas it's smooth as glass. Its slightly worse before the truck warms up. No engine codes and I had the truck tuned a few months ago by a very popular local shop and he tuned said he didn't notice anything weird on his computer. I know the water pump bearing is on its last legs could it maybe just be That rough bearing? Or is it maybe just a characteristic of these trucks?

I have a '05 2500HD with the 8.1L (bought new) and it has a very noticeable and annoying shimmy/shake at idle, especially in neutral. It smoothes out a bit in drive. It's been that way since new and I complained about it because others told me their engines idle like glass and the BS service mgr at the dealer told me all GM engines shake like that at idle and it's normal. This is/was my first GM vehicle in 44 years. I said mine shakes a lot not just a normal amount and he just shrugged his shoulders. I've owned a lot of vehicles with different engines and this one shakes the most. It's actually embarrassing to me when I've got other folks in my truck and I always shut it off rather than letting it idle if I have to stop. The engine's not missing, always starts right up on the first crank regardless of temps and runs fine otherwise but it still pisses me off.

I'm curious if someone has figured out what causes this.

if you think it's water pump bearing remove belt and start truck up see if your shake goes away

DEWFPO your problem sounds somewhat similar to mine just a bit worse. Since I bought the truck used it has always had a very slight shimmy at idle but then it was almost unnoticable unless you were really paying attention. I would think a little shaking is normal but yours sounds like maybe a bad mount? But my water pump is starting to chirp and grind so I'm hoping that's what has caused my trucks shaking to become worse. The oil pressure and rpms on my truck are dead steady at idle and it has no hesitation sputtering it just shakes every other second or so.

Sorry, but my 6.0 with 180k miles idles like glass.

I can;t take credit for this, the dealer did a nice restore on this truck before he sold it to me.

I think I would try a fuel system cleaner in a bottle.

And look for an intake or exhaust leak.
