Low cold idle

A few months ago I was getting a code 35. I replaced the IAC valve and the broken connector. After I did this my idle speed was high (+/- 1200 rpm in park and 900 in drive) and the check eng light would come on after 30 seconds. I found that the tbi base gasket was leaking so I replaced that. Now when I start the truck in the mornings the cold idle is about 400-500 rpms (jumps around) in park. After it warms up a bit (couple of minutes) it idles around 800-900 rpms. It runs great when warm just no cold idle. I don't get any error codes.

I am not sure exactly what controls the cold idle and what I need to do next. I am thinking about pulling the IAC valve off and cleaning it just in case something got in there when I was cleaning the tbi.

 

Any suggestions.

I think it is key on, engine off and slowly go all the way to floor.

shut off, try starting.

 

tbi is tight on 5.7 as well.. egr may even be opening by itself.

Coolant temp sensor. Drivers side head?

I adjusted the throttle cable a little today and it helped the cold idle. When I removed the tbi last week I backed off the throttle adjuster. Not sure why I did that but I did. I didn't get a chance to drive it so I will see tomorrow if it idles too high in park after it is warmed up.

 

Thanks for reminding me about the coolant sensor on the block. Three years ago when I was flushing the system I replaced the temp gauge sensor which was bad but not the one on the block. I couldn't find the single wire connector which is broke so I had to tape the connector to the sensor. I re-taped it today and will replace it as soon as I can find one. I don't get any error codes so I am assuming that sensor is ok?
