East Coast Truck Mod

Guys I just got back from a week in Maryland and DC and I saw a brush guard or push bar or something on about 4 or 5 different trucks while I was there.  It was always chromed and in an oval shape with 5 or 6 pipes sticking up from top to bottom of the oval, I saw them on two or three rice burners and at least two Fords so what were they?

I'm not sure I can picture what you are describing.  Could it have been a rack to carry the big fishing rods that "Surf-casters" use?

That's about the only thing that I can think of, I'm going to try and dig up a picture of it to make sure, but they make one's for carrying fishing rods.

They are fishing rod carriers.  They are very common here in the Carolinas.  I wondered what the heck they were when I first moved to NC.

It sounds like surf rod holders.  Some have a platform in front of the pole holder to accomodate a 100 gallon cooler for all the fish that get caught(usually just have 3 cases of beer in it though;) ).  These racks can be a necessity if you need more room inside the truck for other stuff.  Plus less chance of the poles getting broken(unless you go under a real low overpass.  My surf fishing rods are 12 ft and 14 ft long.  :0

Hey, ya need the length to help cast over the breakers. :withstupid:

Thanks guys it looked really weird and none of them had poles stuck in them when going down the road.  And since I'm just a dumb ole hillbilly I could not figure out why they had the same thing on so may different trucks.

Yeah, that be what it is. :withstupid:

Some of us cheap asses would just put a wooden 2x4 or something in-stead of a metal front bumper, and just "U-ring" pvc pipe to the wooden board.

That's what my grandfather did (Or the ppl that owned them before him) to his IH Scouts. Back in the late '80s early '90s he was a member of the NC Beach Buggy club.
