Silverado SS test drive

I know this isn't a race topic but it does involve lots of speed. I went down to the local Chevy dealer to test an SS just for fun. Low and behold they had a blue one sitting there ready to go. So me and the sales dude took it out onto the straight and he asks if I'm gonna go fast in the truck. Keep in mind this 40k truck has 16 miles on it and doesn't belong to me, but like the irresponsible speed freak I am I respond with, "can I?". He says "I've never rode in one of these trucks before." Smoke weed! I wait for the opportune time, pull into a gas station and turn around, and while he is blabbing about the warranty I nail it. That baby can pull pretty good. :flag: He is speechless, except for the lone "oh s**t!" upon take-off. I like them trucks, but now know you should never buy one off of the lot. :D Reckless people such as myself love lenient salespeople :flag:

My opinion, if you ever get the itch to spend 40k on a pickup truck, get this one, it actually has some pick-up. :smash:

I did pretty much the same thing on Friday while mine was having warranty work done.

It was a black one. Not as fast as I would like it to be...But that launch...Nice.

I bugged them for an hour to let me drive one of the Vettes, and the salesman finally asked: "If I let you drive that SS, will you quit buggin` me about driving the Vette?"

I put 14 miles on it.

After I totaled my 2001 I went back to my sales guy to get my new one. They did not have the exact 2002 one I wanted with the 5.3 so they grabbed a 4.8 on hand and said try it. I took my sales guy (we were pretty friendly then). I did the U turn and can back on to the highway to show hom the acceleration. Of course it pulled decent till that picky engine cut out stepped to the plate. He goes OH s**t that was quick, I replied now lets get a 5.3 one. We go to the same spot with the 5.3 and run it again then he goes, " OK lets find you a 5.3 to buy". So months later I have some "stuff" installed and decide to give my sales guy a test drive. I don't think I've seen that shade of green on a salesman in a long while. Needless to say he loves my truck.

Sounds like ya had fun. I hope GM comes out with Regular cab concept model of the SS. If they do thats the one I want. If it came out tomorrow I'd trade in my new xtreme for one. Single cab truck, 395 hp. Ooooooohhhhh. :D

Slap a supercharger on it. Give it 500 horse power so it lives up to the SS name. Then I will consider buying one. Until then, way over priced truck, IMHO. :D

The SS is pretty good stock, but adding the supercharger made it just right for me. :D Not quite 500 HP, more like 470 (there is no AWD dyno long enough to test it, so I don't know for sure, just back calculating from the 1/4 mile ET). I really like how the supercharger moves the power down to the lower RPMs. :smash:

You probably could remove the front driveshaft and have it dyno'd. I have seen a few AWD Mitsu Eclipse's do this.

Now thats a proper SS! ~470hp, I like! Of course for less than 1/2 the price, I just picked myself up another GM AWD thats just as fun. I just got my Syclone about 2 months ago and been havin alot of fun with it, would be interesting to see Sy against SS (specially an s/c'd version) Saw one the other day, an SS that is, on the way home from work but I was in my daily driver (4 cyl Sonoma) so wouldnt have been a contest.

2002 GMC SLE 2WD, 3inch lift, little here and a little there, with a nitrous dioxide kicker for that warm all over feeling.

Nitrous DIoxide? I guess with one more oxygen molicule, your truck must be really fast.

I test drove one a few months back when we took a few cars to a car show. It was in a huge UPS parking lot and they had cones setup. On set up day, the entire lot around us was empty. So I grabbed the keys to the black Silvy SS I had driven down there, fired it up and proceeded to run the slalom through the cones several times (at speed) entertaining those that were also setting up. Got a lot of thumbs up.

:) I'd sure hate to give up mine! It DOES live up to the SS name........2 1/2 ton neck-snapper! I'm sure it would blow the doors off the 454SS I had 12 years ago. A ton of room and handles like a dream. I also get 17mpg (never saw that in the 454SS).........usually 7mpg up the hill and 52mpg down the other side.

Yep, I do that all the time to my wife. Just verbally playing, like saying "No honey, that's got to be higher than 80% more like 4/5." I love having people stare for a little bit figuring it out, or even worse having them agree with me. Basically I do it to see if people are paying attention. The point in fact is common usage is Nitrous Oxide, chemically N2O, two nitrogens and one oxygen. Now physical properties are very similar to Carbon Dioxide. If possible it would actually be N02, which in a real comparrison would have four times more oxygen than nitrogen giving an extra three atoms. Nit picking is silly huh? :)

Now as to the "other" post this little  guest call's BS...........

I have taken three trucks now with the salesman sitting right there, from a stop light, on the on-ramp, up to the engine cutout speed (96 or 98 I forget) which is WELL above the legal limit on the highway. On my truck I arbitrirly let off at 130 mph just because my turn arround point for the dealership was coming up not because it wouldn't go faster.
