Temperature Gauge Not Moving

My recently purchased Sierra. 47 K miles.

 

My 2012 temp gauge does not move. Stays at 210.

 

Is it because I'm not working it hard enough?

 

My 93 moved up and down according to load.

I read somewhere in the 2014-16 forum that the gauge is not much more than an idiot light. IIRC, there is a big gap in temperatures that will all cause the gauge to read 210. Not sure if its the same on the 2012, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Has any body installed an after market temp gauge?

 

Can you add one, say a mechanical and have the place on the motor for the sensor?

 

I would like to keep the OEM and add another.

If the guage goes above 210, then you have problems.

 

You can get an OBDII phone adapter and app, this would allow you to see the actual temps and allow you to read codes.

 

I use an Edge CTS2 on my 2015.5 Duramax and the Edge shows engine temps run between 183 and 190 while the guage on the dash shows 210.
