I have noticed a slight loss in power in my Tahoe. Never really noticed it until my dad asked if it felt slower. I did replace my air filter but it was the larger heavy duty one. That was the only one they had at the time and didn't think anything of it. Would this cause my slowdown? It is only in the mid range area I really notice it.

Also. I have the 3:42 gears. RPO GU6. I just bought 285/75-16 and Outlaw II's for it. And will be installing my lift soon. Original tires are 245/75-16's. I am going about 3 inches taller on the rire. How bad will this effect my power? I have the 5.7L Thanks in advance.

With low gearing like that and bigger tires the power loss will be definetly noticeable. You may want to go w/ some 4.10s if you can find them.

As for the air filter, it could be the culprit, but it seems unlikely that a different air filter would cause a noticeable loss in power.

If you think about it, if you had 3.42 gears and if you added a three inch taller tires I would guess your gear ratio is close to 2.8 or 2.9. A really tall tire is going to take a lot of power to get started at that ratio. Running that kind of gear is going to sooner or later burn up your tranny. All your shift points are going to be wrong.

Well I put the tires on last night to see how bad they would rub without the lift. Well they don't  I can't belive it. They look great. I can't wait to lift it still but now that the wheels are on I feel better. Also I really didn't feel that much of a power loss. The tires will still spin if I make a turn and floor it. And in the dirt they still break loose. And it seems to shift fine. RPM's are about the same at the shift points. Well we will see. $400 to $500 seems like a lot of $$$$$ for the average Joe. Well keep the comments comming. Will I cause more bad than good?
