I'm writing to see if anyone else is having trouble using andriod auto or the projection feature on a 2016 gmc sierra crew cab , I have a galaxy s7 with android auto app installed and when I connect the phone with the Samsung oem charger cable I get nothing just a message pops up when I click on the projection button, I've tried opening andriod auto first and all different things but no luck , also on a different note my wireless charging doesn't work either , I bought the truck new and neither of these features have worked since taking delivery , any suggestions or should I just take it to the dealer for service??post-156706-146781310773_thumb.jpgpost-156706-146781311341_thumb.png

Did your dealer do the android auto update when you took delivery? For 2016 it didn't come preinstalled from the manufacturer. When I bought my wife's 2016 Yukon XL they had to spend 4 hours flashing the software. When I take delivery of my 2016 Sierra in two weeks they told me I would have to do the same thing as well.

Additionally, some Samsungs are known to have issues connecting to Android Auto. My wife and I both have Nexus 6s that work perfectly on the Yukon.

Does anyone know what the firmware should be after its been updated ? I'm thinking they didn't update it which is strange you'd think they would check these trucks for updates before you take delivery of them , but maybe not and I've tried all the different USB options and it makes no difference

Silly question but did you install the Android Auto app on your phone? You need that as well.

You should not need to change the USB mode on the phone.

Edit: Sorry, just re-read the post and see that you do have the app installed.

I would be surprised if that was the case. My Silverado was built in May and it came with the software update already installed.

I have a Galaxy S7 on Verizon Wireless. I am on the PE1 which is the most recent update on S7. I have to use the USB port in the glove box to get it to work. The USB ports in the center console will not work other than to charge the phone. Also prior to the PE1 update, I had to manually change the phone from charging to MTP. After the update, it did it automatically after connecting the USB cable plugged into the glove box USB port.

One other thing I forgot to mention and maybe this will help. Under Developer Options in settings, I have USB debugging enabled. If it is not enabled, I have to manually change the USB Configuration from charging to MTP. That option is also in Developer Options under the Network section. If you need info on how to enable developer options, follow this:

How to access developer settings on the Galaxy S7

Launch the settings app from your Home screen or the app drawer.

Tap on About Phone. It's all the way down at the bottom of the menu.

Tap on Build number 7 times.

I have a Silverado LT. I haven't tried the glove box USB - which I use for my music collection - but the centre console connectors work fine for the most part. Occasionally Android Auto won't launch but I'm pretty sure the problem is the phone and not the truck.

My phone connects with the default USB settings; no need to put it into MTP mode or enable USB debugging. Mind you, I'm using an LG Nexus 5X and it could be that other manufacturers' phones require changing the USB settings. That would be an annoying, nonsensical requirement, however.

Well you are correct. The console USB ports do work as well. I had a spare USB cable in console but it must have just been a charging cable. I swapped it out with the known working USB cable and voila, the console USB ports did launch Android Auto.

Glad it's working for you now.

Gotta wonder why they bother to make charging-only cables. I doubt they're much cheaper to make but they cause this sort of problem all the time.

Had a similar issue with a blackberry priv. Zip back to the dealer and ask them to flash your radio.

After my dealer flashed it, worked like a charm
