Any Midnight Edition Owner Feedback?

Recommended Posts

Hey Folks,

I'd like to get some feedback from forum members and current owners of the SIlverado Midnight Edition Crew Cab that is assembled in Silao, Mexico. I have a 2017 6.2L on order and drove a 2016 6.2L back in June. Logged about 30 miles around town and in DC traffic in one. Loved it.

  1. How has the 18" wheels and Goodyear Duratracs been on the truck? I love the Duratracs on my Jeeps, but know they can be a little squishy. Silverado has quite a bit more weight than my Jeeps. On the test drive they did feel a little bouncy, but that is to be expected. Especially until they break in a bit.
  2. Does the low-end grunt of the 6.2L ever seem to over-power the Duratracs? I figure that you have to be careful not to get too heavy on the throttle with these.
  3. Have any of you guys noticed any oxidation/rust on the frame yet?
  4. Do the Rancho shocks on the Z71 really make you want to do Bilstein 5100 immediately?
  5. Any owner wisdom for me? :-)

Thanks in advance. Sorry if this has been covered before.

Regards,

John

1. Owned the 20" Wheels on a LT and now 18" wheels on this LTZ. Smoother and meatier tire is an understatement. The DuraTrac runs great, no hydroplaning or spinning out like the previous tires. Wish I had 18"s on from day 1.

2. Can't comment on this, 5.3L owner. Company pays for 87 unleaded...didn't want to pay out of pocket just for premium gas.

3. My frame is in great shape thus far, the paint job however is lacking.

4. HELL YES. Any bump while going down hill makes you feel like you're about to fly through the ceiling of the roof. I will be upgrading ASAP.

5. Get Add-on's added to your deal before you sign (if you're qualified for a loan). Saves you $$ on the back end.

Is the ride to you more harsh or bouncy? I'll follow-up on some of the other threads on the 5100s. I've heard about people not being thrilled with the Rancho shocks, but I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary when driving it around town. If anything it felt a bit too bouncy.

It sounds like I need to factor the Bilsteins into my 2017 budget.

Definitely too bouncy on pavement...seems the best way to describe them. They're not too harsh on the pavement though, still a pretty smooth ride, off-roading is a different story.

I've read for about $500, you can get all 4 shocks replaced with 5100s and get the front re-aligned.

I have a Z with Ranchos and I plan to upgrade but it is not so bad that I have to do it right now. Budget it in for sometime but don't feel obligated to do it right out of the gate. There are other needs you can address first.

love mine the wheel tire combo is great, but your going to want bigger ones if you level it they look like pizza cutters. i would buy duratracs again.. as for black ugh its such a love hate relationship... looks so good when clean and one day later your pissed.

also all the ranch shock trucks leave more to be desired. its not just the midnights, but for the most part there fine.

Thanks guys...it looks like I need to leave room in the budget to replace the Ranchos.
