wiper motor

Hope someone can help me out. I have a 97 GMC Sierra and I am having trouble with my wipers. It all started out when I was having trouble with my wipers stalling. They would be working and then all of a sudden they would stop. I would hear the motor running and I would have to get out and hit the motor to get them going. I replaced the motor with one from the junk yard and it did the same thing. I then thought it was a ground issue and put a ground from the frame to the body of the motor. It was working but would not go back to its "park" position. I realigned them and now I am having trouble again. I turn on wipers and now they won't shut off until they do it themselves. Does anybody know of this problem?? Please help It is driving me crazy!!

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the board.

My 95 had the same problem TWICE. I replaced the wiper control which is very easy to do. its located under the hood the firewall drivers side. Just a couple screws hold the cover on. inside is a circuit board that is well known for bad soder joint. You can truy finding the bad soder (slim chance ) or install a new modual. The recommended method is to seal the cover with clear silicone when you reinstall it. The Ground is a good Idea do that to. You should not have a problem after that. I believe there was a letter from GM that covered the repair on your model so check that out.

Good Luck.
