steering problems

Does anybody have this problem.

I have a 97 Sierra 5.7 and the steering wheel sometimes has a bit of a pull when I go around gradual corners. It is not like a balance issue or anything. The steering wheel gives a slight tug especially to the right. It is almost like the steering wheel thinks I am turning farther than I am. I guess a better way of describing this is when I am going around a gradual corner my hand starts at 12:00 and moves to say 1:00 all of a sudden the wheel will move my hand to 2:00 and then back to 1:00. this happens periodically. I am not swerving out of control or anything, but it is annoying :fume:

Thanks

Trying to use the k.i.s.s. method, I say check the level of your steering fluid first before you start looking at other "bigger" things. :fume:

Thanks for your reply, but I have kept it simple. I have checked the fluid and all parts underneath. I didn't think I was a complete idiot. :fume: I even went as far as checking the stabilzer bar. I have talked with the dealer, but have come up with nothing. Now I am at the point of asking around......

Thereis a sensor in the steering box that is going bad. I can't recall off the tip of my toungue what that sensor is called, but I think it may be called the Variable speed sensor???

Someone else here will certainly know what it is called, because although it is not a common problem, it has been a problem that has occured to other people before...

Diver, I have the same problem with my 97 gmc z-71. I posted a while back and got a lot of help from these guys. It is called an EVO sensor. Electric variable orfice. The part number is 26064468. It is located at the bottom of the steering column. The dealerships here in Austin quoted me anywhere from 50-100 bucks for it. It is annoying but you should get it fixed asap. My uncle is a mechanic and he told me he had a customer who had that exact problem and he ended up rolling his truck b/c he lost control of the steering wheel. Good luck :fume:

No problem guys. Just doing my deed as someone helped me out too. I remember the dealer telling me there was a TSB for this problem. There is also a kit that the dealer sells that includes the EVO sensor and another part. You might need that one. I would really be interested in reading the TSB on this problem if anyone might know of it. the part number for the kit is 26081626.
