Confused With Tire Sizes

Recommended Posts

I have a 2013 Sierra GMC (4x4) that currently have factory All Seasons on, I tried looking on Tire rack and browsing the net but getting different answers, here is my question.

The Tires on my Truck now and are Factory , are 265 / R70 17

The Tires I have sitting at my house off rims are 235 / R70 17 thats what I would like to put on for the winter (Winter Tires) on the factory Rim currently on the Vehicle

I just would like to know although lower sitting, would these work on my vehicle? and or fit on the factory rim?

Thanks

235's is 30mm narrower. The sidewalls will be 21mm shorter. The will fit the rim, but will bulge at the sidewall slightly. Speedometer will be off a bit. I do not "think" your alignment will change since the wheel offset is not changing.

For reference, the first number is the width in millimeters (265mm, and 235mm), the second number is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width (185.5mm and 164.5mm), and the last number is the wheel diameter in inches (17 inches).

thanks RP, that was very informative and helped explained, I had no clue what the numbers meant actually until now

On the TIre Comparison tab, plug your current tire size in as Size 1 and the other tire size as size 2 and it will give you a comparison of the 2 sizes

great stuff Hammer Head, went and checked it out, they will fit , may look a little weird lol... and as RPM mentioned, not much difference in speed offset

Thank you

Hi Chevor, thanks for the response, Is it safe to say, they handle good in the snow? mine are 70s, so they would be smaller and a tiny bit lower then factory

thnx

Comparing the same tread design, narrow handle better in slippery conditions.

235/80/17s are close to the same height as 265/70/17s.
