Not impressed

I had a chance to ride in a Dodge 1500 Quad-Cab with the 5.7L Hemi yesterday, and I was not very impressed. The truck was not slow by any means, but it was not nearly as fast as I had expected. I guess the weight did have something to do with it becasue that was a big, heavy truck, but I would be tempted to line mine up with it. I think he would beat me off the line but after I got those RPM's up that 5.3 really wakes up! Not that I really care who wins becasue if I wanted a racecar I wouldn't have bought a Z71, but I love to show off my bowtie.

I was not impressed myself, i drove a 1/2 ton hemi w/20's and the 3.92 rear.

I also was not that impressed with the Hemi. I was all set to buy a 1500 xtnd 4x4 Ram, but after back to back comparisons with the Silverado, I ended up going Chevy. The Hemi honestly didn't feel much stronger than the 5.3, if at all. Add to that the poor gas mileage on 89 octane and, in my opinion, the Hemi is nothing special.

I should add that I am not biased in favor of Chevy over Dodge. I go back and forth between GM, Ford, Dodge, when it comes to vehicle purchases. In other words, if the Hemi had lived up to the hype, I would probably have purchased one.

there was a guy at my church who was wanting a quad cab hemi, but I tried to talk him out of it. Last I've heard is he want's a Impala SS or a Av.

Join my club of Hemi Haters. I've seen and driven many HEMI's in hopes of finding a good one but alas I've yet to drive one that I was impressed with at all plus my 6.0 drug a 03 2500HD Hemi it was sad. So until someone with a stock Hemi can pull my stock 6.0 I won't be impressed. IMO the only thing that Nopar has done is discrace the name of one of the few good motors it has. I think they're stupid for getting rid of the 318, 5.2 and the 360, 5.9... At least they kept the Cummins.

I smoked one with my old 125,000 mile 97 5.7 vortec. Dude will not even talk to me any more. Well I didnt smoke him but I hole shotted him and he didn't catch me till about 60. Mabey 345 horse but not where a truck needs It.

It looks to me like owning a Hemi gives people some kind of attitude. Had a couple of run ons with cocky hemi drivers on the interstate towing.

Several weeks ago I was towing with my F250 our enclosed 16ft trailer with 2 atvs inside it and 1 in the bed-total weight of trailer and machines is about 5000lbs. A Ram pulling a trailer had been pacing me for several miles, both of us doing about 60mph. Started up a long interstate hill maintaining 60mph and the guy decides it's time to pass me.

I don't care much for getting into speed contests but I was coming up on a few semis and didn't want to get pinned behind them doing 40mph waiting for this guy to get enough speed built up to pass me. I stomped it up to about 75 when the other truck's front was even with my bed and was amazed at how easily I pulled away. Thought maybe it was a Ram 1500 with the 4.?L V8. I was able to pull far enough away from him to change lanes and pass the two semis.

He didn't quit though! Finally caught me almost at the top & blew by going down the other side but I'd slowed back down to 60mph. I saw the truck was a newer style 2500 ext cab with a Hemi badge. The trailer was a small livestock trailer with one horse in it. Maybe he's wishing he'd gone with the Cummins now?

I read about those Hemi Rams all the time, and people say they suck. Basically, Dodge just put out a new engine w/ hemispherical blast chambers and slapped a legendary name plate on it, but the truck just isn't what its cut out to be at all. Go with the bowties, because Chevy push rods will always rule the road.
