2016 5.3L 6 Speed Trans Question

My 2016 5.3L GMC Sierra with the 6 Speed transmission with 3250 miles on it does something funny sometimes when it shifts.

 

When shifting from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th ( am not sure which), it will almost miss the gear it is going to and lurch forward ever so slightly and the motor will have to kick the RPM up to get into the gear.

 

So, to explain it different.. if the truck moves from third to fourth gear, and needs to go from 2500 RPM to 1500 RPM.. it will go to 1200RPM and miss the gear and then kick itself back up to get into the right gear which results in lurching you forward a bit.

 

Does anybody else's truck do this? Will it clean itself up in the learning mode or is there a TSB I am not aware of?

mine does it.. its been posted on this forum.. i think its suppose to be normal.... but man it really pushes hard into gear.. you can hear it from in the cab, and yes it does lurch you forward... sucks...

Ah crud. How many miles on yours? Has it gotten better with time?

This transmission learns extremely fast (by 2nd or 3rd shift from my observations). I think I know what you are talking about but never cared enough to look into it.

 

1.) What speed are you going when this happens?

2.) Whats your rear end ratio?

3.) Roughly how much throttle are you giving it?

4.) Whats the trans temp?

5.) Whats the engine temp?

1) Going anywhere from 20-40 MPH

2) No Idea

3) Not hard throttle, just easing it around per normal

4) It has happened well into being warmed up.

5) Once again, well into warmed up. Can happen after a long drive.

That is about as much as I narrowed it down also which is the reason I haven't looked into it much. The parameters in the ECU are complicated so you need almost exact speed it happens.

Just purchased a 2016 Sierra All Terrain and coming from two Tundras I've owned since 2001, I doubt I would have purchased my new pickup if I had read about these tranny issues first. I cringe when I shift into reverse waiting for "the clunk." It sounds like my issue has been around for years without a significant problem, but what does it say about GM engineering when the transmission clunking at all is "normal." Really? I'm willing to give GM a chance, but I'll have little to no patience if I start experiencing the same issues as others have.
