1996 Daytime Running Lights

I park in a fairly dimly lit underground garage at the office and as a result am always aware that my DRL's are working, as they were when I left yesterday.

When I moved the truck into the driveway last night though, they were not working. I still have parking and headlights (low and high) when I use the switch, but my DRL's are out on both sides.

The dash indicator shows that they are on and it goes out when I turn on the headlights (stays on with parking only), but the DRL's themselves are not actually on.

I checked the DRL fuse, and it's fine. Are there separate DRL lamps? It stirkes me as very odd that if there are, that they would both go at the same time

Any suggestions?

Don't sweat it if your regular lights function. The DRL's are a seperate fuse. The DRL's use the low beam lamps at reduced power. I pulled the fuse in mine to disable the DRL's since I don't like them. The only thing is that the fuse is the same one for fog lamps if you have them. The indicator on the dash still illuminates, but that may be a function of the switch which is useful to remind me to turn on the headlights at night. Sometimes I'll run my parking lights only and could forget to turn on headlamps when dark.

As for your problem, double check the fuse. Put a known good fuse in it's place to verify. Other than that, maybe a loose connection to the fuse box? Good luck.

It might be the DTM Day time Module it located under the dash. My buddy had to replace this bad boy when this happened to him.

Give the Part house a call if you dont have a wiring schematic of your own. I think it runs about $50 bucks.

I hope that helps Im not sure of a way to check this Module by buddy took a shot in the dark and just got lucky.

I would dbl check the fuse like c1500 said. It's in the fuse box at the end of the dashboard, (I guess you already know that though since you already checked it... LOL!!! )

When mine failed it was the diode that the dealership replaced.

Does anyone have part numbers for both the relay and the diode?

I called my dealer today and asked for a price on the relay, and was quoted $100 (CDN). I'm sure I can find that and/or the diode as necessary for less through gmpartsdirect.com or another online source withthe part numbers.

Just one more thing to check before you spend any money - make sure your emergency brake is not on. Even if it is on 1 click (which you wouldn't notice while driving), it will turn the DRL's off.
