ALLY TRANS TEMP

I NOTICED TYESTERDAY THAT WHEN I RAN MY A/C THE TRANS TEMP WENT FROM 150 TO 190. IT WAS NOT AN OVERLY HOT DAY OR ANYTHING.

I've seen mine as high as 200deg on days with OAT of 55deg. F.

Anybody know what normal is?

I have a 160 t stat and that keeps the tranny cooler it seems. I know Tow Haul mode raises temps. Ive never seen over 190 towing but I havent towed yet in anything over 85 degrees or so.

Normally its around 160-170 or so on the gauge

Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't tow/haul cause the allison to run cooler due to the torque converter being locked in 2-OD. I know mine runs cooler with about 5K behind it than it does empty. Mine runs about 180 in town and 150 hwy, or course I would bet most of these gauges are not accurate or correct. I also noticed that it runs cooler when you change the spin on filter than it does with a dirty one (I change the spin on every 5k).

1) it will run hotter with the A/C on, due to heat being run through the condenser, If you look, the condenser should be infront of the regular radiator (which, if I'm not mistaken also houses the atf cooler) therefore the added heat from the a/c is going to slightly raise teh temp of the atf.

One solution that I have seen, is to move the A/C condenser a few inches away from the radiator, just more it out an inch even, this will allow air to travel between the coolers better, I have been told that by separating them about 2-3" can reduce the temps 10-30°F on a hot day.

Yes but not when empty for some reason.

I dig the 160 Tstats. Everything runs cooler. Not sure what available if you have aDmax though. I put lower t-stats in everything.

My gauge will hit 210 stuck in highway traffic on a 100 degree day. Allison says normal temp is 175 to 225. I'm a bit skeptical about the top number, but running a cooler thermostat (160) definitely dropped my tranny temps (haven't seen one above 200 since the t-stat change). Cooler engine coolant means cooler tranny oil, given how our trannys are cooled up front.
