Sticky rear steering wheel buttons

So, my wife opened a soda that had apparently been shaken up as we drove and got it on the steering wheel... Luckily it didn't get in the seat or anything, she caught it pretty fast... In any case, I'm noticing my volume up button is kinda sticky now... or harder to press and slower to release.

 

Is there a way to remove it so that I can properly clean it? This is one of the buttons on the back of the wheel.

I ended up figuring out another solution: got a steam machine and steamed out the stickiness. Worked very well. Just thought I'd pass that along in case anyone else ran into a similar problem.
