04 Denali Quadrasteer Rear Diff popping/whiring

What's up guys,

So recently the rear end in my 04 Sierra Denali has been pretty clunky on low speed turning and reversing. It pops, and makes a whiring sound, but goes away once you get up to speed, either in 2 wheel steer or 4 wheel.

Recently towed a car trailer and strangely with no car on it, it got worse. But with the car it was fine.

Changed the fluid a few months ago with Amsoil severe gear 75W-90, which is what's recommended for the Quadrasteer since the GM stuff is basically non existent anymore. Can I put in limited slip additive with it to try and help?

Thanks in advance!

Asking the wrong person (sorry), I just threw that out there because I know they have some sort of joint at the knuckle...and your symptoms are similar to a failed ujoint in a front axle.

But I've only seen the quadrasteer deals driving down the road (sort of like saying I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night). I think they are a Dana 60 by the shape of the center chunk?

Yeah it's a Dana 60, and a G86 LSD rear diff

Not sure what the G86 LSD would be in terms of the Dana LSD, but my guess is its either a tracloc or powerloc, both of which have clutch plates with bellvue washers and tend to be very reliable (and easily rebuildable by the way). They shouldn't cause the noises you describe...further making me believe you have a bad joint somewhere.

Went to the local GMC dealership and grabbed that ACDelco LS Gear Oil, that's what the quadrasteer fluid got superceeded to in the GM parts system. Drained the old AMSoil 75w-90 Severe Gear, and put in the new stuff. Appears to have stopped most of the noise. Only been in for a day but it's been so much better so far. I'll update this if the noises come back but otherwise that looks like it's the solution for anyone else that has this problem.

GM Part number #8882624

Thanks for the help guys!
