Nav Map Updates? & Software Updates?

I have a 17 Silverado 1500 LTZ with the 8" screen/NAV. How do you get map updates?

As roads are added/changed the maps will be out of date at some point.

 

I have a Garmin GPS/life time map updates and about once a quarter I get a notice that new map updates are available.

 

 

Also, software updates.

 

Page 99 of the Infotainment manual...."Over the Air Software Updates". It starts off, "If equipped" and then gives instructions to Settings / Software Information / System Update. When I go there the only option I have is to dump the current to a USB device. I guess my truck isn't "equipped" to to software updates???

And that is why I would never pay one penny for nav in a vehicle.

You need to go to the dealer and pay a buttload of money if you want the updated map software. Or just drive around knowing in your head if any roads have been added in your area. Seriously, its not like they build new interstates every day, the new roads are likely in new developments only.

 

You might as well just use the garmin if you really need directions.

Updates are done via usb you buy from gm nav disk. Don't know the exact web address bit google it. There won't be any update for a 2017 though.

Do map updates have audio alerts in them my 16 will not alert me when I get close to toll road or is this though xm

That is the only site you can buy them from. They come on a USB drive and are programmed to your specific VIN. If you see them advertised on ebay or anywhere else they won't work with your NAV.

 

The "over-the-air" updates is for something else. It has to do with vehicle software not NAV (mainly OnStar can reprogram your vehicle OTA if needed).

Check your "Voice Prompt" settings in the NAV menu. My 2015 does this ...

Everything is on dealer says Radio all up to date

Updated my maps now my poi are all double up showing places twice.I have a 2016 gmc 3500hd new map number 84201676 but my old map number still showing on radio.
