No. Different everything (radio, screen, hardware, HMI, etc.).

Welcome to this forum. You have asked an interesting question and I am curious as to why this would be difficult. I see people installing aftermarket radios so I hope 15HDriver and others can explain the obstacles in a little more detail.

He gave all the detail that is pertinent. I worked with the GM engineering department on the radio issue that plagued the 2014 trucks for 2 years. I asked this very question several times over that course, and the answer every time from GM was that it wouldn't work due to hardware, software, wiring and different manufactures of the parts. Nothing from the 2014 to 2015 to 2016 to 2017 trucks is backwards compatible thru the dealer / GM.

 

I know the company that GTPprix works for can do some changes to the HMI, but even still I thought he said you cant swap the new stuff across to the older trucks.

i have a 16 hmi in my truck (its a 14). Its doable. If you search there are a few companies that offer conversion kits

The modifications that are being made by members on this forum are extraordinary but not a radio swap? I know that if you ask GM about a modification they will not deviate from factory specs. I remember asking Gm if I could put a 1.5" level on my '15 Sierra...

You are talking the HMI (Human Machine Interface) which contains the Bluetooth module and is the communication hub between the systems. The Radio module is a separate module from the HMI.

I have access to both of the black modules so if I have that it should work right?

Get ahold of Anthony at MVI. He posts on these forums as "GTPprix" and can do just about anything with swapping radios. You need to text him though (no emails or phone calls). You can check them out at https://www.gm-navigation.com/

 

If you order from MVI they are a supporting vendor and everything comes plug-and-play.
