TPS Code 2136

Newb to forum,

 

I'm what you call a backyard mechanic, can fix a lot of issues but some give me more gray hairs and frustrate me to the point of pushing the truck off a cliff. Subjective to the owner being inside it or watching it go over from the side.

 

Pertinent info:

 

03 Silverado LS 4x4 x cab Z-71 169,xxx miles 5.3 liter 4L60E 3.73, minor body lift stock size rims and typical rocker & cab corner rust.

 

My truck has been throwing the TPS code 2135. Some days the truck will drive perfectly fine and other days the code pops up every few miles. Truck can be at operating temps or just starting out afer a minute or 2 warm up in the driveway/parking lot. Thankfully I have a stand alone code reader that I can reset the computer and keep going. Trust me not a good thing that I have to do this at highway speeds!!

 

It started out of the blue after it was sitting for a few weeks while I was getting used to using my new Cruze as a DD 125 mile commute to and from work.

 

The 2135 code all it tells me is that the TPS is malfunctioning. I have in the past replaced the connector & stepper motor with a new units/kit from NAPA. I cut the wires crimped them together and heat scrunk them for a good weather tight seal.

 

Now around 25,xxx miles later its started all again, checked all my connections & even replaced the TPS with a spare one I had laying around.

 

The problem still exist, I got a huge winter camping trip with the Boy Scouts and my son coming up in 2 weeks. I'm the trailer hauler for the Troop to bring all our supplies to and from the campouts.

 

I cant have boys in the truck with me and hauling a trailer along with the TPS giving me grief. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like you may have what's called a high res open in one of the wires to the TPS. Get a wiring diagram for that circuit and test each wire be sure they Ohm out to 0. A high res open will show high resistance. In basic, the wire is barely holding together and will present itself at anytime, under any condition. Just a guess. Hope this helps.

Have you tried cleaning the throttle body from the soot build-up. Sometimes enough of it can stop the butterfly from sitting at it's detente position therefore giving a correlation error because the ECM doesn't see the TPS corresponding to the gas pedal position.
