Escalade ("smooth") rear vented thingies on 'Hoe?

Hey all,

Kicking around the idea of putting some Escalade rear vent sills (I think I've seen them called sills) -- you know, the plastic pieces that frame the sides of the tailgate window, on the b-pillars -- but don't know what the swap entails.

Here's what I'm wondering:

- Is it just an unbolt/bolt-in situation?

- Anyone sell them at a discount?

- Do they come unpainted in BLACK, or would I need to paint them black? (My Tahoe is metallic pewter, but I want to keep the color scheme the same back there. I guess I'm wondering if they are sold in the same finish as what comes on the Tahoe -- or are mine actually painted black?)

- Any reason NOT to do this swap? (I don't want my Tahoe looking like a Blazer -- but I THINK it should look pretty good/trick.)

Thanks for your help, folks!

Kirk, that's like putting Z06 rear brak ducts on your standard C5 :jester::fume: Next you'll be putting Caddy badges on your Tahoe :D

I think that would look pretty cool. Being into Street Rods, small, subtle mods that you can make that only certain people would notice are neat.

I would think that they'd bolt right up, but I'm certain that you'd have to paint them to match your truck as they most likely only come in black.

Send pics if you do it! :jester:

Exactly! :jester: I like the subtle touches. I like doing mods that make people think "Hey... Why didn't MINE come with that?" It's fun to swap pieces between models/years for something that still factory-looking, but that adds uniqueness.

Like on my '97 Wrangler, along with all of the obvious mods like winch and bumpers and lift and wheels/tires, I added Sahara-model "spice"-colored roll bar pads to my non-Sahara blue Jeep (with spice interior). The Sahara's don't come in blue, and no blue Wranglers came with spice roll bar pads -- but the color is a perfect match to the interior (it's all factory), and it's a great-looking, subtle, unique touch.

Now, just last night I saw a "Truckin'" magazine where a guy had put these smooth corners on his Tahoe -- but they were from Street Scene. So, it looks as though these are being made by different companies (along with the GM ones). I guess I have some options.

Oh -- and as for painting them, I don't want to paint them if I don't have to. I WANT them black. Anyone know if they come in a raw, black plastic? Are the STOCK ones on the Tahoes painted black, or just black plastic? Anyone know?

Thanks, folks!

PS -- Who am I fooling? I just wish I were Carl and had his Escalade. ;)

PPS -- Carl, WHAT "standard" C5? You're the one who had a standard one, not me!

My standard one was nicer than your yellow one. :D:cheers::crazy::smash:

Not quite. I disagree. Although I don't support posing ripoffs, a few subtle factory touches can really make a vehicle pop (stand out).

Would it be posing to put Z06 ducts on a convertible? (as long as badges aren't changed and you try to pass it off) :)

This type of thing used to gripe my butt with the Camaro SS. It was cool if someone wanted the ZR-1 style rims, or the hood, or the wing. But when someone tried to pull off a fake, he was irritating.
