5th wheel/Quadrasteer?

Dave J,

My truck is not a quadrasteer but I have a question/comment anyway.

Does it help much when backing up or would the benefits be seen more when towing a travel trailer where the pivot point is 3-4 feet behind the rear axle instead of over top like a fiver is?

What is the largest model that quadrasteer is available in?

Kyle,

YES! it makes a big differance as far as I am concerned when it comes to backing up!! YES it makes more differances out on the highway when passing etc. as far as backing, since you can turn the rear steering on and off, when one gets in a position where you DON't want the rear wheels to turn, turn it off, going to 2ws then turn it back on when ready! you can get Quadrasteer in both Chev/GMC 1500 and 2500 series pickups and in both Yukon/Subrban. But at this time they area only using The 6.0/4:10 combination. another thing to remember is that the Quadrasteer axil is 5" wider than all the other axils except Dualies. NOT quit the bennifit of a dualllie but close! :jester: BEST d**n thing to ever happen to full size trucks!! gives the 1500 a turning radius of a Saturn Coupe! 37' all I find pulling travel trailers on a ball are thrilled with it. one statement I have remembered reading is "think of it as putting a steerable axil on the front of your trailer" I figure ANY TRAILER

Dave,

I have a 03 Sierra ExtCab SLT 4X4 with a 5.3 and 3.73 gears.

I put Bridgestone Revo (265/70/17) on 17 x 8 Centerline Stingray III polished wheels.

They fill the wheel wells up better and make both ends 2" wider yet.

Wonderful truck and people love to stare at the rear when turning tight.

Don't yet have enough miles on it to trailer.

:D:) greg, I had and 03 Sierra with the 5.3/3.73 axil But NOT 4x4 I used it for a few months and pulled my trailer about 7K miles altogether. It did the job fine, but I wanted a little more muscle and espically Quadrasteer, so I traded for the Denali. It comes from the factory with 17" wheels and all those other Denali features! ie leather(heated),XM Radio, Onstar, color cordinated Ton-O cover, Tube steps, power folding mirrors, turnsignals in the mirrors, 6 disk changer, Bose, 6.0 / 4.10 aws/awd. makes for a mighty nice truck to be on the road a lot!! and I intend to be. I'll bet those tires/wheels make a real noticable differance :jester:

Greg,

Yeah, 265's was the best thing to happen to my Silverado. It came with the 245 Goodyears and I pitched those ASAP for a set of 265/75/16 BFG AT KO's on 16x8 Eagle 194's. It absolutely changed the character of the truck, and it does way better yanking around my utility trailer on our property. Even in the tight stuff between trees and on goofy slopes, it does better than the heavily modified Wrangler I traded for the truck.

Quadrasteer is the bomb!

Dave,

Sorry that I can't add any 5th wheel comments for you. I can imagine as well as it does with a ball pull, your 5th wheel must be a snap!

Dave,

I really like the Denali (and came close to getting it) but wanted the low range for off-roading and didn't need the cover in that I usually run with highend shell. So I got the Quadrasteer in the SLT 4X4 and all the other goodies that come on the Denali including On Star, mirrors, heated leather and the Bose. I do like the Denali front end better, but have the plastic Denali box in the rear with all the clearance lights.

I also wanted the better gas mileage of the 5.3 and 3.73. A twelve foot trailer with 4 dirt bikes and gear is about the heaviest load I will pull very far.

Either way the Quadrasteer makes for a great truck and there are some great buys right now with all the rebates. $3000 off on the truck, $2000 off on Quadrasteer and $500 off for driving into the dealer in a non GM vehicle. I ended up paying $31,100 for a truck with a sticker of $41,600. It was a better deal the my 2000 Z71.

Yep sounds good!! I really didn't know that they were offering that motor/axil combo with the Q-steer! But Now I can pass that on when I am talking to anyone that is interested. here in this town there is an excessive amount of Ram trucks! and a lot of really arrogant drivers. I AM getting a lot of looks as there are only 3 maybe 4 Denali's and a Chev or two with the marker lites. In this town all Chrysler/Jeep transmissions are made, and them guys pretty much buy what they build. I don't blame them there, I would/do too! the engine controls and a bunch of other GM electronics is made right across the road. a part of Delphi. At one time we made 20,000 completed Delco Radios in 3 shifts, day in and day out, till they shipped it all to Mex! we had in excess of 11,000 employees and they were around 89% female. Now several yrs later we have maybe 3500. Me I put faith in electronics. :fume:
