6.2/8spd, 35" tires, and 3.73/4.10 Etc GEARS?? Anyone??

Ive got a '17 with the 6.2/8spd and 35" tires. Many have told me I should put 4.10 gears in there..

 

I know pickup acceleration will be better then what it is now, but how will gas mileage be effected? It'll cruise at a higher rpm--sucking up more gas huh?

I would do the 4.10 with 35" tires mileage in the city will improve as the extra low gear will get truck moving with less throttle hwy mileage will be the same up until about 2200 rpm .......play with a rpm calculator and see where your cruise rpm is at say 70 mph with 35 " tires if you cruise alot higher than 70 mph then plug in the number

 

I had 4.11 in my 2010 5.3 with 6 spd and 33" tires and mileage just fell off over about 73 mph compared to the 3.42 with stock size tires

.......so play with rpm calculator to see where the rpm ends up at based pon your preferred cruising speed

 

BTW i just ordered a 2017 CC with 6.2 and 3.23 rear so pbly go 3.73 with 33" tires

congrats on the purchase, I think you will love the 6.2/8spd.. just traded in my '15 5.3/6spd and stock for stock the 6.2 8spd got better gas mileage, has worlds more power, and the trans is so much smoother..

 

Anyone else have experience?

I think jumping to a 4.10 ratio would be detrimental to your fuel mileage because of such a large jump in gear ratio compared to the change in tire size. Your stock tires should be 31"-32" and I'm assuming you have a 3.23 rear ratio. According to a calculator you would only need a ratio approximately around 3.53 to retain stock performance. anything greater than this is going to give better acceleration and more pulling power but your fuel mileage will go down. Again, this is based on a calculator so it's not always exact but with a 4.10 rear ratio you should be able to spin 40" tires with stock performance. The problem with the gear ratio calculators is they don't account for the increased weight of the larger tires into the grand scheme of things so in reality you would need a little bit larger ratio than what a gear calculator will tell you to compensate for the increased weight but I don't think you want to jump from 3.23 to 4.10 for 35" tires.
