Can someone tell me what this device is for?

Lol, maybe just a little bit of thread drift, but still relevant to the fact that whatever that is in the OP's picture is not standard OEM. I haven't been able to find anything similar to it. Anyway you can get a closer shot of the device and maybe we can see exactly what it is?

Turns out it is just an alarm status light. Flashes blue when alarm is set. The switch on the back doesn't appear to do anything.

I'm sorry that in your opinion I don't seem to care but I really didn't see anything to really reply to. I wasn't going to get in a pissing match about the gauges. The truck was checked out through Chevrolet and the light was added by the selling dealer as an alarm upgrade on 1/29/14. The truck had 2447 original miles when I purchased it from a local Volvo Dealer last Saturday. My thanks to those who had relevent comments.
