Vacuum Pump Tick

Every once in a while my vacuum pump ticks. I have used a cheap stethoscope to verify the noise is coming from there and if I pump the brakes, the ticking will quit after about 3-4 pumps of the brake pedal. It doesn't leak any fluid from the pump. Does the vacuum pump need to be replaced if it ticks every once in a while? I've read on here about a few vacuum pumps failing.

I honestly don't know if I would worry too much about it unless it's abnormally loud. I'd pull the hose off of the booster to verify there's no engine oil on that side of the line.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I looked in the brake fluid reservoir about a month ago and it looked like it was all brake fluid.
