2003-2006 Dash Board in a 1999-2002 Silverado / Sierra

FYI - The 1999-2002 dash boards have been discontinued by GM and there are none left NOS that I could find. The 2003-2006 dash board is still in production but GM says it will not fit a 1999-2002 truck. Having a 2001 that had a cracked and crumbling dash I did not want to go with a cheap glue on dash cover and most used 1999-2002 parts have the same cracking issues from age.

 

Compared the a 2001 to a 2006 dash while installed in a truck side by side and could see no reason why it was not the same part. Ordered the new 2003-2006 dash on Ebay for $325 shipped. Came in today so I made the swap attempt. The result is a perfect fit minus the headlight sensor. The 2003-2006 dash headlight sensor hole is a little bigger and does not hold the sensor snug. I could swap the sensor to a 2003-2006 but no need to. The dash looks perfect as is. The headlight sensor looks fine tucked in the larger hole. If you need a 1999-2002 dash, go for the 2003-2006 replacement part. It works!

The final solution for the headlight sensor was to wrap some black electrical tape around the base to build it up to a tight fit then force it back in the hole. Looks OEM installed. This project is done.
